Week One

Hi 10K'ers! Rhea (a.k.a. "Bex") here. I coach the "gazelles," as Coach Peter generously called my group. However, instead of the so-called "fast" group, I'm re-naming my group "Intermediate II."

That moniker is more inclusive and better describes our pace.

I had the pleasure of running with Amanda, Anne, and Jeff this past Saturday. We ran 3.6 miles on our first training run, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, past the Washington Monument, to the Capitol and back. It was a clear, sunny and freezing morning, but we warmed up quickly.

Jeff ended up taking a slightly shorter route, running about 3.3 miles. I chatted with Anne and Amanda on the way back, where we battled a headwind.

Running this week: Please run 2-3 times this week, 30-40 minutes if possible. Once our groups shake out, I will give you more specific advice. Also, Coach Peter mentioned the possibility of starting Tuesday morning workouts.

In the interim, try out the DC Road Runners' Wednesday night track workouts at Washington & Lee High School in Arlington. See the club website, www.dcroadrunners.org (click on "Track Workouts"), for more details.

DCRR 10K Program: Day One!

(What a good-looking group of people!) (Click to enlarge.)

A beautiful day to start the new 10K program! Temps at 8 a.m.: 25° F, with a RealFeel of 14°F. It was a bit nippy!

(First things first: take the gloves off your frozen hands and fill out these forms in triplicate!)

(Coach Peter gives a peppy pep talk!)

(Participants raring to go. It's cold out here!))

Don't forget to check the forum thingy for all the latest info.

Happy running.
